5th CONTEST 

FOR YOUNG CLASSICAL GUITAR INTERPRETERS

 

 

PRESENTATION

 

GUITARRA BADALONA is an international classical guitar interpretation contest, organized by the Badalona Guitar Association, in which young guitarists under 25 can participate. It has three levels of competition depending on the age of the participants.

The Contest will be held on April 25 and 26, 2020 at the NAU 3 of the "Cultural Center l’Escorxador" de Badalona. The day before, on April 24 afternoon, there is provided a presentation ceremony and inaugural concert at the Church Virgen del Carmen de Badalona.

The DEADLINE to formalize the registration for the Contest, is on April 11th, 2020 at 12 hours AM.

 


 

RULES

 

CATEGORIES

 

Any person who comply with the age conditions can participate. The first classified of each category at previous editions cannot present themselves in the same category.

1st  CATEGORY:        Up to 24 years old  (Born after April 26th, 1995)

2nd CATEGORY:        Up to 17 years old (Born after  April 26th 2002)

3th  CATEGORY:        Up to 13 years old  (Born after April 26th 2006)

  •   There is no minimum age in any of the categories.

 

 

 


 

COMPETITION, REPERTORY AND ACTING TIME

 

1st CATEGORY:       

SEMIFINAL  (Saturday 25th afternoon and Sunday 26th morning)

  • Obligatory piece: “Preludio” de la Suite Compostelana  (F. Mompou) (Ed. Bèrben, Gen. Ed. Gilardino).
  • Repertory of free choice.
  • Maximum time; 15 minutes in total.

 

FINAL (Sunday 26th afternoon)

  • Repertory of free choice. (The repertoire of the final must be different from the one interpreted in the qualifying rounds).
  • Maximum time: 20 minutes.

 

2nd CATEGORY:        

FINAL   (Saturday 25th morning)

  • Obligatory piece: Estudio N.º 5 (H. Villalobos)
  • Repertory of free choice.
  • Maximum time: 10 minutes in total..

 

3rd CATEGORY:        

FINAL   (Saturday 25th morning)

  • Obligatory piece: Canción de cuna (L. Brouwer).
  • Repertory of free choice.
  • Maximum time: 8 minutes in total.

 

  • On the day of the contest in the morning, during registration, participants must submit 3 printed copies of the music sheets of the free choice pieces they will play.
  • Participants must bring their own music stand.

2 - FORMALIZATION AND FEES

To formalize the registration participants must pay the corresponding fees:

1st CATEGORY:    50€

2nd CATEGORY:   35€

3rd CATEGORY:    25€

  • Participants will be admitted in strict order of confirmation of registration, determined by the date and time of payment of fees.

  • The organization reserves the right to limit the number of participants for reasons of space and time.

3 - DOCUMENTATION

Once the payment has been made, the following documentation must be sent by email to the address:

  1. Proof of payment of registration fees.

  2. Image of the DNI, NIE, passport or other official document proving the identity and age of the contestant.

  3. A recent photograph of the contestant.

  4. Repertoire: List of the pieces that will be interpreted, indicating order of interpretation and approximate duration. *

  • Throughout the day there will be an exhibition by the guest luthier ANDRÉS DANIEL MARVI, so that the participating guitarists will be able to try his guitars.

14:00    PUBLICATION OF THE LIST OF FINALISTS OF THE 1st CATEGORY (maximum 5 finalists)

* Participants will have a room for rehearsal and preparation 15 minutes before their performance (The venue also has open spaces whit good conditions for rehearsal).

** The order of performances will be communicated at the time of accreditation and will be published on the notice board.

There are different types of awards: monetary, concert and studio guitars, musical material, shopping vouchers, concerts at various guitar festivals, plaques, commemorative diplomas and medals.

Three jury awards and one special prize from the public are determined for category 1, and two jury awards are determined for each categories 2 and 3.

  • First award:

    • € 2,000 (two thousand euros)
    • Concert at GUITARRA BADALONA 2021, (€ 500 for travel expenses)

  • All prizes will be subject to the corresponding withholding tax according to current legislation.

 


 

JURY

 

  • The jury will be formed by a minimum of three professional musicians or guitar makers, of which at least one will be a guitarist. The jury's decision will be definitive.

  • The jury will assess: the interpretive merits, the stage presence and the technical and musical value of the chosen repertoire.

  • The identity of the members of the jury will be published before the celebration of the contest.

  • The jury reserves the right to declare a prize void if it considers that no group or participant reaches the level required to deserve it.

  • No changes will be accepted in the programs registered unless authorized by the jury.

  • Interpreters who exceed the maximum permitted time of performance may be interrupted by the jury.

  • Any doubt or circumstance not included in these rules will be resolved by the jury attributing their competency.

 

 


 

GENERAL RULES

  

  1. The falsity of data in the registration documentation will disqualify the contestant.

  2. Any disrespectful behaviour on the part of the participants in the scope of the Contest will imply their expulsion and loss of the rights acquired up to that moment.

  3. The non-participation for reasons beyond the Contest or for breaking the rules does not imply the return of the payment of the registration fees to the Contest.

  4. All prizes will be subject to the corresponding withholding tax according to current legislation.

  5. All performances will be public and may be photographed and video and audio recorded by the Contest organization. The participants authorize the Organization for recording the development of the event and assign the image rights without implying any compensation, provided that the purpose is to transmit the event or promote the activities of the Association within a cultural, and not commercial, frame. For any other use, the AGB is obliged to consult the recorded person or their custodian. In all cases, this use will be in accordance with the provisions of Organic Law 1/85, of May 5, on Civil Protection to the Right to Honour, Personal and Family Privacy and to the Own Image.

  6. The Organization may limit the number of participants per category if it considers that the time or space available for the development of the Contest may be exceeded. If the maximum number of registrations is reached, a waiting list will be established in strict order of registration. Participants who may be excluded from the competition for this reason will be notified as soon as possible, and always with a minimum of 10 days before the contest is held, and the fees paid will be returned.

  7. The organization reserves the right to extend the contest one day if the number of registrants makes it necessary, being able to change the day of performance of the participants who are already registered. Affected parties must be notified ten days in advance.

  8. If there are not enough registrations in some of the categories, the Organization reserves the right to cancel the competition in that category. If this occurs, the amount of the fees will be refunded to the registered participants, or they will be allowed to participate at a higher level if they wish. Participants who may be excluded from the competition for this reason will be notified as soon as possible, and always with a minimum of 10 days before the contest.

  9. Participation in this Contest implies knowledge and acceptance of these rules. The Organization reserves the right to interpret them for the resolution of possible doubts or conflicts. The original text written in Catalan is considered as official text.

  10. Participants authorize the Badalona Guitar Association to send them communications and manage their personal data for the purposes related to the organization, development and promotion of the Contest. Participants’ data will be recorded in the AGB database for future communication related to the authorized causes. The AGB compromises not to trade with these data or transfer them to third parties, keeping them in accordance with current laws.
