During the concert dedicated to José Luis Romanillos that we held in Badalona in June 2022, one of the participating luthiers, a former student of him, challenged his colleagues to build a replica of a Romanillos guitar and to come to Badalona one year later to organise an exhibition with all the built instruments. Ten luthiers accepted the CHALLENGE and will come to Badalona in June for this GATHERING and will offer their master this peculiar TRIBUTE.

CHALLENGE, GATHERING, TRIBUTE

The exhibition CHALLENGE, GATHERING, TRIBUTE is a unique and unprecedented exhibition organised by the Associació de la Guitarra de Badalona, with the voluntary participation of 10 prestigious guitar makers from all over the world, who will be exhibiting concert guitars created especially for this occasion. The guitars can be replicas of an original, or be inspired by the work of their master, José Luis Romanillos, who died just over a year ago, and to whom they wish to pay tribute.

At the exhibition we will be able to contemplate 11 guitars that will be replicas or inspired by some of Romanillos' most famous guitars, such as the "Medio Siglo", the "Marian", the "Culé" or the "Amistad".

Along with his pupils' instruments, the exhibition will also include two of Romanillos' original guitars, the "Medio Siglo" and the "Marian", courtesy of his widow Marian Harris. These will be the two guitars with which Antigoni Goni will perform her concert on Saturday 17th.

Therefore, a total of 13 guitars of great artistic value will be on display on 16, 17 and 18 June 2023 in the exhibition hall of the El Carme Cultural Centre in Badalona. Admission is free. Once the exhibition is over, the instruments will be returned to their respective creators.

GENERAL DISCLOSURE
The exhibition will also include an introductory section explaining the process of creating a concert guitar according to the traditional construction technique that was the reference of maestro Romanillos.

AUDIOVISUAL AND PUBLICATIONS AREA
There will also be an audiovisual space with videos related to the guitar and an area with the books published by J. L. Romanillos, the book written and edited by Josep Melo dedicated to the guitars that Romanillos built in his workshop in Guijosa, and the Album Medio Siglo recently published by Antigoni Goni. All of them will be available for consultation and purchase during the Festival.

AUDITION AREA
Relevant guitarists are invited to visit the exhibition. We will have a stage open to the public where, at certain times, we will be able to listen to some of them trying out some of the guitars on display.

PRESENCE OF THE LUTHIERS
All the guitar makers taking part in the exhibition will be present at different times, with the possibility of a discussion or debate between them.
