CLASSICAL GUITAR RECITAL
ANTIGONI GONI
MEDIO SIGLO
Saturday June 17th · 7:00 p.m.
Antigoni Goni is one of the great classical guitar performers of today, acclaimed worldwide. She plays regularly with a Romanillos guitar. She also maintained a solid friendship with the guitar maker -and still maintains the relation to his widow Marian Harris. It was from this relationship that the idea for the Medio Siglo project was born more than five years ago...
A GIFT TURNED TRIBUTE
Medio Siglo (half a Century) is a record containing José Luis Romanillos' favourite guitar pieces, performed by Antigoni Goni and the Volterra Project Trio. The guitars used in the recording were the last four guitars built by Romanillos, with the famous "Medio Siglo" among them - hence the name of the project.
Medio Siglo was the planned gift to celebrate the luthier's 90th birthday in June 2022. Sadly, José Luis Romanillos passed away on February 12th, at the age of 89, without being able to see the project completed. Despite this, his widow Marian Harris and Antigoni Goni decided to go ahead with the project until they managed to publish the record and the documentary film that accompanies it.
The presentation of Medio Siglo in Badalona will take place at the Teatre Margarida Xirgu on Saturday June 17th and will begin at 5.30 p.m. with the screening of the documentary film. This will be followed at 7 p.m. by a recital by Antigoni Goni, who will perform many of the works on the album live.
In this concert she will play with two original guitars by Romanillos: the "Marian" and the mythical "Medio Siglo".
The album "Medio Siglo" intends to be a tribute to the sound and art of the distinguished luthier José Luis Romanillos, an expression of gratitude for his unparalleled understanding of his profession, for the depth of his artistic sensibility and for the unique way in which his guitars they are capable of touching the deepest strings of our emotions.
