In this recital, Ángel Jesús López, a guitarist from Almería based in Barcelona, presented his project Fuera del Canon (Beyond the Canon), masterfully performing a compilation of excellent but little-known works for classical guitar, composed by authors from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries who are not often featured in concerts.
In front of a large audience very interested in his proposal—about 200 people—he interspersed brief explanations of each work and its composer. The performance of each work was careful and technically flawless.
Overall, we witnessed an exercise in vindicating figures and music with which we enjoyed a very special repertoire, which set aside the established canons for classical guitar concerts, which tend to feature the most well-known composers. We applaud and congratulate this great young guitarist for his mastery and for this initiative.
