Despite the predictions of rain showers and the coincidence with the Champions League final, the audience filled the Church of the Carmelite Fathers in Badalona to witness the long-awaited concert by Ljubica Bukvić. It was well worth it, as Ljubica gave an excellent recital.

This was the second time our association organised a concert by Ljubica Bukvić. The first, in 2020, could not be held in person because of the pandemic and was broadcast on the Internet. On that occasion we were already able to see the mastery and great sensitivity of this Serbian guitarist based in Barcelona, so since then we had been looking for an opportunity to hold a concert with an audience so that we could all enjoy her music live.

In 2024 the occasion arrived and she did not disappoint. At our Spring Concert, on June 1st in the Church of Carmen in Badalona, Ljubica delighted us with her talent, performing an attractive and courageous programme.

Ljubica began the concert with the Fantasies on motifs from La Traviata, pleasant and recognisable melodies for the audience, but not easy to perform.

She continued in this vein with two pieces by Albéniz, Mallorca and Torre Bermeja. She then moved on a century with two more works, this time by two contemporary composers, Marco Ramelli and Feliu Gasull. Very different from each other, the first piece more evocative, a tribute to Van Gogh, and the second one, an excellent fantasy on Manuel de Falla, full of expressiveness and energy.

He went on to sweeten the evening with two pieces by Agustín Barrios and ended the concert with Granados's endearing Danza Española n5.

Ljubica Buckvić performed all the pieces with great technique and virtuosity, even in the last two, in which she managed to skilfully conceal a discomfort in one arm that appeared and prevented her from performing comfortably. Due to this setback, she prudently decided not to play the encore requested by the audience. Ljubica would have gladly offered it if this inconvenience did not arise. With the encores pending for a future concert, the audience left the recital with an excellent feeling.

THE CLASSICAL GUITAR IN BADALONA

In this event we have been able to see that the number of people coming to our classical guitar concerts continues to increase. Some people do it for the first time but many others repeat and follow the activity of our Association. This makes us very happy and motivates us to continue with our work of spreading the guitar. We're so proud of our Association's work to keep our beloved recitals and other events going strong in Badalona for 12 years now. We're delighted to see our efforts being noticed, with some of our events reaching an international audience.

We would also like to emphasise that most of our sponsors and collaborators have been with us since the beginning of this journey. Our sincere thanks go to them as well. We know that supporting culture always implies intention, will and effort.

Thank you very much to all of you for attending our events, for your trust and your support.
