ABEL GARCÍA AYALA

A Tribute to the Maestro

Friday June 16th · 7:00 p.m.

Museu de Badalona
Pl. Assemblea de Catalunya, 1, Badalona

The first of the three concerts of the Festival Internacional de Luthiers Guitarra Badalona 2023 took place on this incredible stage, located in the basement of the Museum of Badalona, in the middle of the Roman ruins of the city. Among stones more than 2,000 years old, the young Mexican guitarist Abel García Ayala offered us an extraordinary classical guitar concert.

The Mexican talent inaugurated the Festival 2023 organised by the Associació de la Guitarra de Badalona. The outstanding guitarist Abel García Ayala captivated the audience with his extraordinary interpretations during the inaugural concert of this international guitar festival, a festival apparently focused on the world of luthiers, but which is adorned with three very relevant concerts. This was the first of them.

Abel García Ayala

This guitarist's artistic quality is confirmed by 23 national and 9 international awards, including as the "National Youth Award", the highest award a young people can receive in Mexico, given by the president of the country.

Despite his young age, he has already performed in 15 states of Mexico, as well as in Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden and China. He has also performed with various chamber and symphony orchestras in Mexico, Spain and the USA.

He began his career at the Conservatorio de Las Rosas, under the tutelage of Rodrigo Nefthalí, where he was unanimously awarded the "Honourable Mention".

Later, his musical style was nourished by the great teachers with whom he has continued to study, such as Leo Brouwer, Pepe Romero, John Williams, Manuel Barrueco and David Russell.

Our association organised his first concert in Barcelona in 2015. On that occasion, at the age of 19, he surprised everyone with his refined technique and his extraordinary musical sensitivity.

In 2019, Abel graduated from the Master's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Alicante with the distinction of "Student Summa Cum Laude". In the same year he won the International Competition for Young Performers GUITAR BADALONA 2019.

He recently completed the Master of Solo Interpretation at the Katarina Gurska Superior Centre, in Madrid, under the tutelage of Maestro Alex Garrobé.

He has published two albums: Guitarra Clásica (2009) and Guitarrerías (2015). He is also a member of the Curicaueri Quartet. Abel García Ayala uses Knobloch Strings and plays with guitars built by his parents, Abel García López and Verónica Ayala, renowned luthiers in Paracho (Mexico).

“Abel has an innate talent for music and art, inherited from a very long family tradition … Thanks to his passion and dedication, he has achieved an enviable musicality, sensitivity and virtuosity.”

Pepe Romero, Alicante, 2019.
