Abel García López is one of the great guitar makers of the American continent, awarded as a honoured craftsman in his country, Mexico.

He took courses with Romanillos in Córdoba in 1992 and 1993. He was his assistant in the courses in 1994, 1995 and 1996.

Today he combines his work as a professional luthier with teaching. The prestigious Orfeo Magazine has recently dedicated an extensive article to him.

JOSEFINITA

For the exhibition in Badalona, Abel has built a guitar inspired by those of José Romanillos, named Josefinita in homage to his master. He used some old wood pieces that Romanillos himself gave him as a gift during one of his courses.

It is evident that Abel has named this guitar La Josefinita in homage to the maestro José Romanillos, but also because this is the name of one of the most emblematic and famous Purépecha songs (pirekuas) of Michoacán music.

Regarding its construction, Abel has been inspired by aspects and details of three original guitars by Romanillos: La Cordobesa (1984), La Gabriela (1987) and La Rosa (2000-2005).

Abel himself comments:

"It has been a real pleasure and a great commitment to build this instrument with such old materials, originally from Maestro José Luis Romanillos and my father Benjamín, which they so jealously guarded for so many years."

Below you can see some photographs taken during the construction process of La Josefinita. Thank you Abel for documenting this magnificent work!
